Word Clouds

We created word clouds from our interviews. Our word clouds highlighted the different priorities of research subjects. Older subjects focused more on school, while younger ones focused more on their neighborhood, but both talked a lot about their family (see the references to family, sister, dad, and mom). Many of the photos were of family members (and are not reproduced on this site).

The responses were often fairly literal and followed the interviewers’ prompts. Some of the older research subjects (including one who chose not to be recorded) showed more agency and self-direction in the interviews in ways that highlighted how our research topic was not necessarily connecting to their most central concerns.
